Ever since #5G started rolling out back in 2018, there’s been rumors and conspiracy theories regarding the effects on the health of humans and animals. The Internet showed us pictures of birds falling out of the sky and people burned down cell towers. Just when you thought you had “Edge Computing” figured out, here comes #5G MEC. What in the heck is MEC? The acronym stands for mobile #edge computing. Lately, it’s also been multichannel edge computing and even multi-access edge computing. The takeaway is that mobile operators are putting edge compute capabilities at the edge of the cellular network like at the cell tower or within their various metro data centers. This results in lower latency for compute workloads and it frees-up network bandwidth that would otherwise be clogged with requests for cloud resources.
